Olive Oil and Salt Scrub

You know, you can spend tons of cash on salt or sugar scrubs, but it’s easy (and less expensive) to make your own. Here’s what you need.

1 Wide Mouth Jar with a lid
1 bottle of Olive Oil
1 Container of Plain Table Salt (it doesn’t have to be iodized)
Essential Oils (optional if you are fragrance sensitive)

NOTE:When using essential oils, consult with your local health food store or naturopathic health care professional before using. Be especially careful if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are nursing.

Pour about a half a cup of oil into the bottom of the jar.

Then pour about half of the container of salt into the bottom jar.

You’ll get something that looks like this.

Take spoon and mix together.

Add another 1/3 cup of oil.

And then the rest of the salt.

The end result before stirring looks like this:

Mix it up and add a bit more oil if you need to.

It’s okay if there’s a little bit of extra olive oil on the surface of the salt and oil mixture.

It’ll kind of look like applesauce.

I like to leave the mix in the jar unscented. That way I can put whatever essential oils I am in the mood for in the mix. So spoon a half a cup or so into a bowl.

Then pick your essential oil. My favorites are Aura Cacia Lavendar

or Heart Song

Put a few drops into the bowl and stir it up.

It smells heavenly when you are done.

ANOTHER NOTE: Be very careful when you start using this in the tub or shower. The floor can get very slick from the oil.

After you make the trip into bathroom, turn on whatever music you want to listen to and light candles because this is all about taking care of you.

Start at your feet and take a little bit of the salt and oil mix and massage it in. Work your way up your calves and thighs rubbing in small circular motions. Do the same all over your body. The salt sloughs off dead skin cells. The olive oil draws moisture into your skin because it is a natural humectant. Once I’m done with my body, I run my hands through my hair and let the olive oil condition my hair as well.

Very carefully stand up and turn on the water. Shower or rinse off the salt and oil mixture. You can use a shower gel and a body puff to help get the mixture off your skin.

When you dry off, your skin will be soft and feel marvelous!
